Kimani Fowlin is a dancer, choreographer, and educator. She was awarded the New York State Dance Education Association’s Outstanding Dance Educator Award. Kimani is the director of the Dance Program at Drew University. Her work abroad includes performing in Russia, Ghana, and choreographing and performing in Greece with Milo Z, a funk R&B band. She has been on the Mason Gross Dance faculty at Rutgers University for over 24 years and teaches dance residencies for Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), DreamYard Project, and other NYC arts organizations. Kimani is currently collaborating with Daniel Burkholder on Embodied Truth: Finding Ways to Move Together, and recently co-organized Dancing Around Race: Whiteness in Higher Education at the University of Utah. She helped launch Black Dance Stories, the weekly story sharing and discussion series she manages with Charmaine Warren. Kimani recently received Drew’s Center for Civic Engagement, Faculty Leadership Award in 2021.
