About Indya

Indya Childs is a dancer and emerging choreographer hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. She began her dance training at the Price Performing Arts Center and The Atlanta Ballet and later obtained a B.A. in Dance from Kennesaw State University. In 2015, Dance Magazine recognized her as one of their “25 to Watch.” Childs then attended the Hubbard Street Professional Program under the guidance of Alexandra Wells. She has performed with professional dance companies such as Ballethnic Dance Company, T. Lang Dance, and Abby Z and The New Utility.

Recently, in 2021, Childs was chosen as an Arts and Social Justice Fellow at Emory University. She showcased her debut dance piece, “Tokoliana,” during the Elevate Atlanta Public Art Festival in September of the same year with the support of Dance Canvas and Atlanta Contemporary. In 2022, the Cultural Attaché for the French Embassy in the Southeast and the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs granted her a unique opportunity to delve deeper into her research on contemporary African dance by attending “Afropolis” in Marseille, France. Indya was awarded the 2022/2023 Emerging Artist Award by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs this year.

Indya is excited to be the Operations Manager of the Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, ME.
